Scholarships

A scholarship provides a free education for the people who work hard. It helps people save money and creates less stress for them because they don't have to worry about money problems. It helps them work harder to maintain the scholarship because if you slack off your scholarship is gone. I lets your parents have something to brag about especially if you have Asian parents.

to get to these colleges I will have to take one more year of english, math, and science. I will also need to get a better SAT score. I will also need to sign up for the ACT. I also need to write my essays for the colleges and get some letters of recommendations. I will also need to come up with $194 for the application fee. To get all of these things done I have made a timeline:

  • In the Summer I will save up money from my job to get the $195 for the colleges.
  • June 6 I will be taking the SAT again.
  • June 8 I will take my ACT.
  • I am writing my essay right now.
  • The next school year I will be taking my last year of english, math, and science.

I am where I need to be I just need to get my SAT scores up.

College Degree

A college degree can get you places. If you get a degree then you are more capable of getting better jobs and not having to worry about if you can't make the rent, bill, taxes in time. It it worth it because you get something out of it. You get better opportunities and you can get your dream job. It is worth it because you have been working all this time to get to where you want to go in life not where you wish to go. It also brings you social success because you meet a lot of new people in college and also when you start to pursue your career you start to meet new people and become friends with the boss. it brings you social success because you get to hang out with the people who have degrees and are successful in life. When you hang out with successful people you will start to want to be successful.

Spring Break

For spring break my family and I are going to the silver leaf resort. When I get there my plans are to go fishing. I will also play basketball and just relax with the family. When I get home today I will practice baseball because I do not have a game to day because of the snow. The stupid snow made us not play 10 games and have batting and bunting practice everyday.

Dead Poets Society Questions for me

1. The most influential leader for me is my father. He has influenced me because of the stories he told me of how he grew up. He came from Vietnam and growing up he didn't have a father he was raised by his mother but his mother didn't have money so he was put in the orphanage. Then he came over in a small boat
2. It means that poetry is an expression of everything as in people write poetry explaining life or they write it for entertainment. Poetry can be written for anything, and it gives life to the world. I think we read poetry because it gives us inspiration or motivation.
3. Yes, I do agree with Mr. Keating, because you do have to look at situations or thing in other perspectives before you engage into it. If you are looking at one perspective and engage into a conversation with a person with another perspective you wouldn't get what anyone is saying or talking about, it wouldn't make sense to you.

Dead Poets Society Questions

1. No, Neil would of committed suicide either way. In the beginning of the movie Neil's dad dropped one of his classes and he tried arguing with his father but his father didn't care. then his friend came out of the dorm and asked why he never stands up for himself and they talked about how he is running his life. If he had not of met Mr. Keating his father would of ran his life and he would of been miserable and he would of committed suicide either way.
2. The bravest of Keating boys was Charlie, and the coward was the ginger boy that told on the dead poet society. Charlie was the bravest because he was the one that didn't care what he did no matter the consequence. the ginger head boy was a coward because he was scared and told on the boys.
3. I feel like Mr. Keating did put it in there. Yes, he would do that because he is not like the other teachers at the school.

Dead Poet Society Theme

In the film Dead Poet Society the main theme is not to conform, just like Mona Lisa smile. In the film the boys were always taught to do things their father says, what their mother said, or what grown-ups say. The boys are then taught to not conform to society. Their teacher Mr. Keating helps them to live life and not be held down by their fathers, teachers, and things that are expected by society. One example of this is when Mr. Keating told them to rip out a section of the book, explaining how to create good poetry. He does this because he wants the boys to know that you don't have to depend on a book to see if their work is good or not. Another example was when Mr. Keating made four people walk in a line. They were walking different at first but then they started to become synchronized. Then he says that you shouldn't follow what others do so he told everyone to walk different from the person you see so everyone started to walk funny. He does this to show them that they can follow others and what people do but be different about it.

Dead Poet Society Extended Questions

1. I think the most transformed person in the movie was Todd. Why I think Todd was the most transformed was because before he came in he was all shy and anti-social. He started to get out of his comfort zone because Mr. Keating help him, and also his friend persuaded him to go to the cave.
2. Charlie was the one that doesn't change during the movie. He doesn't change because tries not to conform to others because that was he "FEAR."
3. Mr. Keating is a character that lives life and he is just a free person. He does not change during or after the movie.
4. Todd Anderson- His character trait is a shy guy, his fear is talking in front of people. he has overcome his fear because he had to, Mr. Keating made him speak up in front of the class.
Neil Perry- His character trait is that he wants to be a free independent guy but his father keeps controlling his life, and also is one of his fears. Neil does not overcome his fear, he had a chance but didn't take it, instead he committed suicide.
Knox Overstreet- His Character trait is that he is mostly in love the whole time in the movie. his fear was talking to the girl his likes. He overcomes his fear by writing a poem and reading it to the girl he likes.
Charlie Dalton- His character trait is that he is crazy as in he doesn't care about what he does no matter the consequences. His fear is conforming, he overcomes this fear by doing this he wants and not want anyone tell him what to do.

Mona Lisa Smile questions

Katherine Watson's teaching was unorthodox, because she did not teach from the book. In school teachers usually teach from a book. In her class she showed them slides of things that many don't consider as art. She taught them to not just look at the painting but to "look beyond the paint." She used art to teach them a lesson to life.
During this time period, women's expectations were to go to college, get married, and stay home watch the kids, cook, and clean. When Joan got an application to study at Yale, Betty was shocked. If I were Betty I would of been happy for her, to see a girl or lady in this time period pursuing a career was crazy, but she was going to take a risk. She was going to do what many don't.

Mona Lisa Smile teaching styles

If you had a teacher that was always teaching thing out of the book and "sticking to the facts" that class would not want to learn because that teacher is a boring person. Like one of my teachers I don't even think she knows anything about the subject so she just gave us a book and tells us to read 1-2 chapters and we have a test in a week. During class she just talks about stuff that would never be on the test. Katherine Watson was a teacher that was teaching "out of the box" she didn't have to teach form the book because the girls already knew everything so why teach it again anyways. I wish I had a teacher liker her that made class fun and got everyone involved and talked about new and exciting things instead of teaching from a book. I only had one teacher that thought the book was a piece of crap, and his lesson plans were so amazing he never had anyone go to sleep on him he made everyone want to go to his class because he was an amazing teacher and introduced us to new things.

Mona Lisa Smile Theme

My favorite theme of the movie is that the girls learned not to conform.

Mona Lisa Smile

I think this movie is about a bad college and this lady comes in and changes it. She actually makes them learn and not fail. She makes them go to class and she will fail people if she has too. I believe that after she changes the college she helps the students go to other colleges to help them get into their dream job. She helps them believe that anything can happen.

High School v. College

In high school I think the exams are easy. Since I am a junior I can get exempt. In college the exams are harder and you can not be exempt. If you don't show up for an exam yo practically failed the class. High school is easier than college because you have people telling to go to class and to wake up early and do your homework. In college there is no one there to hold your hand, you have to wake up and go to class by yourself. Your mom doesn't wake you up you mom doesn't tell you to go study and do your homework. You need to have more responsibility then you did in college. If you are responsible now and do your work and put in an effort I don't think you will have a problem.
